My strongest memory of Jeff Gasper was when the Broken Arrow swim team spent his entire 10th grade year making accusations about his sexual orientation, making obscene calls to his house at all hours and generally harassing him.

In the spring, they seriously vandalized his family’s yard and the police got involved. Laura Winter Kinsey, who wasn’t on the swim team but tried to impress the semi-popular people on it, aggressively blackmailed Jeff into not pressing charges against Bob Bennett and Deanne Dutton Hughes. It worked like a charm, and Bob Bennett ended up at West Point and Deanne Dutton Hughes with a scholarship to University of Tulsa. Laura Winter Kinsey abruptly quit talking to her longtime friends in an attempt get more popular ones and she boasted about her dream of becoming a “sleazy lawyer” one day. Jeff and I were talking about it all about a year before his death, and he mentioned that none of them ever apologized to him.

RIP, Jeff. You were a gentle soul.
